Sea of People attended in last rites of Slain Militants in South Kashmir

South kashmir : ioktimes : Thousands of People participated in more than two rounds of funeral prayers held for a militant commander and his associate in south Kashmir on Sunday, whilst at least 13 persons have been injured after forces fired live ammunition on the mourners.

Top Al-Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam and his associate Shakeel Ahmad Dar were killed on Saturday evening in a gunfight with forces in the neighbouring Kulgam district.

Regardless of frosty climate conditions, A sea of people thronged Sugan and Chilipora villages the native villages of Zeenat and Dar respectively-since that early morning to take part in their funeral prayers.

A witness stated more than two rounds of funeral prayers were offered for the slain militants to accommodate the gigantic rush of mourners.

Hundreds of forces personnel had encircled the villages to limit the number of individuals becoming a member of the funeral prayers, the witness mentioned.

He mentioned the forces personnel did not permit mourners to walk in groups towards Sugan and Chilipora villages, but despite such restrictions, a tremendous rush of mourners was witnessed on the funerals.

The 2 militants were later laid to rest amid pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.

A mourner told ioktimes that as forces personnel tried to march toward the prayer location (jinazagah) “close to a kilometer from the main Sugan village” some youth threw stones at the forces, fearing they would intercept the funeral procession.

The forces personnel, he said, fired live ammunition at the mourners, leaving at least 12 of them injured.

A police officer mentioned there was no deployment of the police in or around the village however the infantrymen of Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles covered the area since late Saturday night.

“A women identified as Showki Jan additionally suffered injuries after she was hit by an Army vehicle,” the witness stated.

Some youth additionally threw stones at an army camp in Chillipora village, he mentioned.

A senior police officer, who wished not to be named, said the army deployed its squaddies within the area despite objections by the police.

An official at district hospital Pulwama mentioned they acquired six individuals with each firearm and pellets injuries.

“Three individuals with firearm injuries have been later referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for specialised treatment,” he stated. An official at primary health centre Zainpora mentioned they received 5 persons with pellet injuries.
