In 2008 when Kashmir witnessed a mass uprising towards the land switch to the Amarnath Shrine board, Zeenatul Islam, then 20, was arrested underneath Public safety Act (PSA) via the state police for working as over underground worker (OGW) for militants.
A resident of Sugan Zanipura area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, Zeenat-ul-Islam was once speculated to be in contact with many militant outfits and used to be facilitating them.
Speaking to ioktimes over phone, his father, Ghulam Hassan Shah stated: “he is my eldest son and has three-years-old daughter at home. He used to be arrested in 2008 and later he joined militancy. In view that then we hardly ever had his idea. Even, today an army officer called me to contact my son and tell him to surrender earlier than them. I replied him that how am i able to?
Zeenat-ul-Islam had three siblings and his father is a farmer. He was once imprisoned for three years and used to be released in 2011.
At that time the valley had witnessed two mass uprisings in which more than 375 civilians were killed. Majority of them getting killed for the period of protests at the hands of the government forces.

After four years he survived as a militant, Islam along with his associate was killed in a brief gunfight with governmnet forces at Kathpora village in Yaripora area of south kashmir’s Kulgam district.
